PathoPig™ is a focused diagnostic panel that uses qPCR analyses to detect the most relevant bacterial enteric pathogens and virulence-associated E. coli types affecting piglet and grow–finish performance.

Where it helps?
- In pig production, PathoPig™ helps identify likely infectious root causes behind diarrhea, uneven growth, poorer FCR, and herd health instability—supporting targeted nutritional, veterinary, and management actions.
- PathoPig™ can provide insights into the effectiveness of gut health solutions (e.g., feed additives) under your farm’s real-world conditions.
- PathoPig™ provides a practical way to demonstrate an additive’s impact on key swine pathogens and pathogen-associated dysbiosis signals—especially valuable for multi-functional products (e.g., gut integrity, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial alternatives).
How does it work?
We mainly use fecal samples for pathogen detection. However, the panel can also be applied to intestinal-compartment-origin samples (e.g., digesta from ileum/cecum/colon) depending on study design and the biological question. BioFreeze™ kits ensure convenient sampling, sample stability, and smooth logistics.
What do we measure?
The PathoPig™ panel targets critical swine pathogens and E. coli types relevant to enteric disease and production losses:
- Brachyspira hyodysenteriae
A key cause of swine dysentery, often associated with mucohemorrhagic diarrhea and major performance losses. - Clostridium perfringens
Associated with enteritis/enterotoxemia, particularly in young pigs depending on toxin type and management context. - Escherichia coli 16S (all strains)
A broad E. coli marker providing total E. coli load (all strains). Useful as a baseline indicator and as context when interpreting virulence-associated E. coli results. - Escherichia coli F4+ (K88)
A common adhesion type linked to ETEC-driven post-weaning diarrhea. Detection is especially relevant when assessing weaning stress and feed transitions. - Escherichia coli F18
Another major adhesion type often associated with post-weaning diarrhea and edema disease risk. - Lawsonia intracellularis
The causative agent of ileitis (proliferative enteropathy), frequently linked to reduced daily gain, poorer FCR, and variable clinical signs. - Streptococcus suis
An important swine pathogen associated with systemic disease (e.g., meningitis, septicemia) and herd health issues.
